Connecting to Network Tallahassee
using Miami TCP/IP

Connecting to Network Tallahassee with an Amiga computer is easier these days thanks to a graphical TCP/IP stack called Miami. You can get the latest version directly from Nordic Global.
The minimum requirements for this endeavor are:
- Any Amiga computer, 680x0 or PPC (PowerUP or WarpOS) based
- AmigaOS v2.04/2.05 minimal, v3.1/3.5 HIGHLY recommended
- MUI v3.8 or GTLayout graphical interface extensions
(Reaction/ClassAct may be used if installed from the OS3.5 CD)

- Download and extract the Miami archive. Follow the installation instructions for your particular version of AmigaOS/Workbench and CPU type. Find the drawer where Miami was installed and run MiamiInit
- Getting started:
Welcome to MiamiInit! This program is very well indexed with plenty of helpful information. If you make a mistake, simply click on BACK. If you wish to abort the setup at any time, click the Close Window gadget.
- Choose your internet connection
Select your internet connection type here. Since you will be dialing into Network Tallahassee, select analog/ISDN modem.
- Choose the modem interface
Select the interface your modem is connected to. Most Amigas will use the built-in serial port. If you will use a different serial adapter, please read the instructions accompanying your hardware.
- Choose your serial device driver
Select the device driver you will use for your serial port. It's recommended that you use the Miami built-in driver. BaudBandit.device (available from AmiNet) is also recommended by this author.
- Choose your modem
Select your modem from the list. In this example, the modem to be used is not listed.
- Special modem settings
Miami requires special settings to use your modem. The commands listed here are generic Hayes commands to activate those features, and generally do not need to be changed. If your modem was not listed, it may be necessary to consult your modem manual for the proper commands.
Use the selector to choose your modem speed.

- Your username, password, and connection settings
Use these settings for your connection to Network Tallahassee:
IP Address: Dynamic
Protocol: PPP
Enter your login name and your password. You will not need to use a login dialog, so make sure that option is unchecked. Before proceeding beyond this window, be sure your modem is turned on and the phone line is available. The next window will connect you to Network Tallahassee in order to finish the setup and configuration procedure.
- Connecting to Network Tallahassee
This window connects your Amiga to Network Tallahassee to finish the automatic configuration procedure. When this window becomes active, press F4 or click onDial to begin the connection process.
For Network Tallahassee, you do not need to be concerned with any other dialer features of this window. After you connect, MiamiInit will query the Network Tallahassee servers for information, then you will be automatically disconnected.
- Final settings and configurations
Enter in your real name, and your user name. These are used by various internet protocols to identify you as the owner of this account.
All save options are checked by default. If you do not have a printer, uncheck the Print Information sheet option.
- Import settings and save as default
You are now ready to run Miami! From the "Settings" menu, select Import from MiamiInit v3... or press Right-Amiga-I. Simply press OK when the file requester appears. Miami now imports the Network Tallahassee settings created by all your hard work above. Now save these settings as your default, so they will load automatically when Miami runs. Select the "Settings" menu, and use Save as default, or simply press Right-Amiga-D.
That's it!
Now whenever you are ready to connect to Network Tallahassee, simply run Miami and press the Online button.
