Why does it say I'm connected at 57,600 bps or 115,200 bps? Am I really connected at that speed?
If your connection speed displays 38400, 57600, or 115200 bps, then Windows is displaying the "port-speed" in stead of the modem's connection speed. The port-speed is the speed in which Windows communicates with that communications port. Your modem's actual connection speed is equal to or less than your modem's maximum speed (14400, 19200, 28800, 33600, 56000 bps). The reason why you may see the port-speed in stead of the modem's connection speed is most likely because Windows doesn't have the correct modem configuration file installed (or the manufacturer didn't write it correctly). If you know the manufacturer of your modem, you should see if there is a new(er) driver for it by visiting the manufacturer's website.
